It's been a long, long time since I breathed the sweet, musty aroma of old house.
...Pulled down wallpaper from the ceiling as rodent droppings rained down into my hair.
...Lived for two years without a kitchen, cooking everything in the crock pot on top of the dryer, and boiling baby bottles on a dorm-style hot plate.
...Painted, then repainted, then repainted all the rooms again, just for fun.
...had a pipe came crashing down through the ceiling in the middle of the night for no good reason.
...Froze to death on the hexagonal tile floors in the bathroom in winter, because in houses like this one there's NO insulation and it's dang COLD.
...Heard a sizzle when I flipped a light switch on.
...Became so used to the sound of something scratching around in the attic that I tuned it out.
...Blew my nose, and had Sheetrock dust come out.
...was asked 172,000 times, by 172,000 people, "Have you seen that movie The Money Pit?" Yes. Yes, I've seen it...
Oh, remodeling an old house is not all glitz and glamour.
But I saw this house and by golly, I'm having dreams about it.
I think it needs me, and I have just enough screws loose to want to do it again.
