Tony Evans is one my verrrrrrry favorites. His Facebook posts are a bright spot in a virtual world that has gotten so depressing these days (It’s an election year, so there’s that, and we have one clown after another piling out of the clown car to run for president, and we have to choose from among them to be the LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD? And of course, Cecil the Lion. Jesus give me strength. But I digress…).
All that to say, THANK YOU, TONY EVANS, FOR BEING ON FACEBOOK. We need you. There’s so little salt and light out there…
So yesterday, I found myself ANNOYED, and not necessarily about the presidential candidates this time. First there was one annoyance, then another, then another.
Do you ever just want to be one of those people who airs ALL the dirty laundry on social media?
I secretly, sometimes, want to be that person. Something about telling ALL your unpleasant bidness to Facebook would feel so satisfying. It MUST, because so many people do it. And Heaven knows, I have a Heinous Burden on my back that WILL NOT GO AWAY and it would be nice to have ALLL my Facebook friends chiming in to voice their support.
I almost became that person, y’all. I almost shared an article about this person along with a cleverly-worded little status to let you ALL know in a humorous way that I’M DEALING WITH THIS AGAIN. I typed it out with my thumbs, and almost, almost, hit ‘post.’
And then I remembered that Tony Evans‘ status.
It’s so humbling when God places a message right there for you, and convicts your heart, and saves you from all the things you’re thinking.
So I made a vow to myself that when I think about ‘venting,’ I’ll speak God’s Word instead.
When someone acts like a burden, I’ll declare that
No weapon formed against me will prosper.
When a child (you know, hypothetically) dismantles a dozen gift bags I had spent hours assembling to get the water bottles out of them when there is a CASE OF WATER SITTING RIGHT THERE,
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Or when the two-year-old acts like a two-year-old, and YELLS a LOT, and pumps out half a bottle of really expensive night cream onto her toothbrush, and then of course POTTY TRAINING,
The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
The whole clown car of presidential candidates?
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
Your minivan has 173,000 miles on it and also, it’s a minivan, when you’re more of a luxury SUV kind of person?
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again! Rejoice!
Or how about this one?
…to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to HIM be the glory.
And let’s not even talk about the people who have nothing better to do than come to your Facebook wall and attack you with some rude words (I can’t even believe this happens! I would never go to someone else’s wall and say something ugly! Gosh!)
Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.
