Annie’s SIX.

Melissa Beene Ford/ Uncategorized

We just celebrated Annie’s SIXTH birthday.

Where have the past six years gone?? It’s so hard to believe she was this tiny, bald-headed, thumb sucking bundle of joy… JUST THE OTHER DAY!

And now, she’s growing hairs in her arm pits. Well, ok, she’s NOT, but she did make that announcement in the car on the way to church Sunday. ‘Mom. I’m growing hairs in my armpits,’ she announced, just like that. {Anything for shock value…}

Remembering some of our favorite moments…

Some pics from the hospital, April 12th, 2006. Big Sis looks a little distressed; it wouldn’t be the last time her baby sister caused her grief, as it turns out. Or maybe she was distressed about my strawberry Nick and Nora pajamas. It’s hard to say.

Seven pounds, twelve ounces… just the other day.

Dressed up for the ride home from the hospital…

The first few days at home…. she looks quiet and sweet in this picture, but she wasn’t. She screamed for two weeks straight. But then I gave her an ultimatum and she decided to settle down and be part of the family.

She’s always been on the cutting edge of fashion. See? I started her early…

Oh…. that sweet fuzzy head. How I miss those days…

Sisters…..

I miss my sweet Katie Beth being this little, too…

Annie’s first Halloween; she was Pegasus the magical flying horse!

She has ALWAYS loved to laugh….

(Camping at Beaver’s Bend… she was laughing right up until she got pink eye. Then nobody was laughing. Not a great experience out in a cabin miles from civilization…)

But sleep has never been her thang; don’t let this picture fool you. I think she was only trying to get out of helping with the laundry… cute goes a long way when it comes to getting out of chores.

Her First Birthday…

I thank God every single day for giving me this crazy, hilariously funny, sequin-covered-disco-ball-dressing Rock Star girl who STILL loves to laugh and constantly keeps everyone around her laughing. I look forward to lots more birthdays to come!

I see the lanolin at the ready in the first hospital pic.  Go ahead and crank her back out:).

Happy 6th Birthday, Sweet Annie!!!  LOVE THIS POST, Melissa…her sweet baby pics, and I love that six years later you remember it like it was yesterday.  By the way, I laughed out loud (I really did) at the pink eye comment. Love it!  Happy, Happy Birthday Annie!

HAPPY Birthday to the cutest six year old Annie EVER (Mines only four, or-"Fer" as she pronounces it, so I can safely say it). What an adorable little sweetheart! (by the way, those Nick and Nora jammies would make lovely curtains in my vintage blue-and-red kitchen!)

Happy birthday, Annie! I, too, remember the Beavers' Bend trip. Wasn't the first trip her first ear infection? Fun times, for sure. 😉

One funny thing to notice in that next to the last picture is that her place at the table still looks EXACTLY like that every night! 😉

OH YES! I forgot about that… it was pinkeye PLUS an ear infection! And I have vivid memories of sleeping (or trying, unsuccessfully, to sleep) in a Volvo with an infant on my chest in 30-below weather (or something like that) so her cries wouldn't wake y'all up! UGH! Actually my only good memory of that trip was your caramel corn. Mmmm. That almost made it all worthwhile.

Aw! My Annie used to say she was 'fer,' too! And her last name was Ferd, and she opened the der, etc., etc. She's finally learned to say the 'our' sound and it makes me a little sad. I love the idea of your vintage blue and red kitchen, btw, and used to have a vintage cherry-themed kitchen myself. SEE? We would totally be BFF's in real life…

Just don't tell her that…. she's *DYING* to be a fabulous, pretty teenager who never spills her food, poor girl!

I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 years of paint off of this door down to the wood and start over… but that person has no business starting new projects. 😅 My neighbors must have thought this project would never end. *I* thought this project would never end. 😰 If you’re thinking of doing this yourself? Just don’t, ok? Throw the whole door away and buy a new one. 😂🤣 Just kidding. Old house weirdos like me… we can’t just do things the easy way. Anyhoo… after some trial and error, @sherwinwilliams Celestial is what I landed on, and I have to say… I like it. Periwinkle-ish blue looks great with the yellow house and will look even better when the azaleas are in bloom. Was it all worth it? That’s not important right now. 🤭 Will I do this all again in two years? The magic eight ball says… without a doubt. 👏🏻 I’ve already picked the next color. #gluttonforpunishment #somefoolsneverlearn #oldhouselove #oldhomelove #makinghome #southernliving #gardenandgun #azaleadistrict #tylertx

2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrollin 2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrolling through my pics from the last twelve months made me realize how blessed and content I am. Prosperity, love, and peace have been ours in abundance, in spite of the pain of losing my dad. The second picture is the last picture of him… the last time I saw him. 💔 But God has been good to my family this year and 2022 is ending far better than it began. 😄 #2022inreview #thanksforthememories
Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍ Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s it. That’s the tour. (Slide two).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a new trend I’m starting: bare Christmas tree. Lowe’s tag still attached (so quirky and unexpected)! Christmas ornaments still in boxes. Coming soon to an Anthropologie window display near you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every year I think, “next year I’ll do better. Next year I’ll have it together.” And then, here we are on the SIXTH Christmas that we’ve been in this house, the sixth Christmas I’ve dragged our chaotic bunch of Christmas mess out of a chaotic garage I still haven’t unpacked from our move six years ago.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe this year is the year I’ll organize it all and put it back neatly so that by Christmas number 7, it will be smooth sailing. People will flock to my social media to see how I’ve pulled everything off SO PERFECTLY. Next year will be my year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seems every year there’s less and less bandwidth for all these things. There’s more grief and stress, less money. More demands, less grace.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I put this sign on the wall in my office so I could keep it in front of my eyes: Love. Joy. Peace. And all that. I am SO unlike Jesus most days. So lacking in all of these character qualities. And that’s WITH waking up most mornings and spending my first 30 minutes with God Himself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lost would I be without that? Geez. I can’t fathom. I REQUIRE being transformed by renewing my mind every single morning, and even then, responding to people and life with love, joy, peace and patience doesn’t come naturally.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s the goal, though.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This weary world needs that from us Believers during this season, more than ever… even more than an Anthropologie-window-display worthy Christmas home tour.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m working on both.
