Cajun food is one of my great joys in life.
Its in my blood, what with my Kentwood, Louisiana roots and all. Shout out to Cousin Britney, y’all!
Back in the day, my mom, being a Louisiana girl, used to cook Gumbo and Jambalaya and such, but then she quit for reasons unbeknownst to me. I beg and cry, and still she claims to be too busy to stir roux for half a day or some kind of nonsense like that. So I had to educate myself on some of the better Cajun recipes, Cajun Barbeque Shrimp being my all-time favorite.
I love it so much, I have my toes painted this color all summer long.
Its SO EASY to cook, and SO DELICIOUS that your guests will eat their weight in it, and don’t let the ‘Barbecue’ in the title fool you: it has NOTHING to do with a barbeque grill. The title comes from the fact that it is so spicy that it will sear the skin right off your lips…
Not really. I exaggerated a bit on that. It IS spicy…. but in the most delicious possible way.
Start by melting two sticks of butter in your iron skillet over medium heat. Yes, I said two sticks of butter. That’s to make up for the fact that there’s no bacon in this recipe.
As the butter melts, whisk in
- 2 tablespoons of black pepper (I like fresh, but you could use dried if you want)
- 2 1/2 teaspoons rosemary
- 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne(this is MY preference, but if you want to blister your lips, by all means, knock yourself out and add 1/4 tsp more cayenne)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
~~~~~
Now. Are you ready for THE MOST DELICIOUS AND EASY bread recipe, EVER? And it is SO tasty dunked into the spicy cajun butter sauce you just made….but I think I might have mentioned that before.
- 3 cups of self-rising flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 (12 oz) bottle of Shiner Bock (or cheap beer, if you must)
- chopped fresh rosemary (optional) if you have some leftover from your Cajun Shrimp… toss it in. I love rosemary and its yummy in this bread.
- 1 stick of butter, cut into 8 chunks.
I don’t have a picture of the finished bread, cause, well… I burned it.
Now. By my calculations, you should have 2 pounds of delicious Cajun Shrimp, hot Beer Bread, four Shiner Bocks and one stick of butter left.
And if that ain’t a party, I don’t know what is.
my stomach is growling!
You crack me up-I don't even like shrimp…or beer, for that matter, but reading your recipes was sure fun anyhow.
Wow, ummm, super yum, like will be thinking about the bread, especially all night!!! And like the other lady said, I don't even like beer! Ha! I may have to make a run to the county line…or just send my brothers, ha!
Love this recipe! Will definitely be trying it out.
(Found you from don miller's blog)
Look at this sentence……
I love rosemary and its yummy in this bread.
Surely you meant *it's*…
You have to be careful of mistakes like that…. or someone might mistake you for a journalist!
Haha. 🙂 I saw that, believe it or not, but every time I go in to make one correction Blogger messes up something ELSE… It unbolded some of my bold words and changed my font sizes… So I left lots of typos in this one.
Please don't ever mistake me for a journalist again. That's just insulting.
I am soooo sorry about the journalist crack. PLease forgive me!
Since reading your blog almost daily, I've learned the truth…. journalists are just another group of people who are educated beyond their intelligence.
Naturally, this description in no way fits you!
These are some GREAT pictures. 🙂
