So yesterday Annie, age 3, and her friend Audrey, age 4, were swinging side-by-side on a swingset. Annie was trying to talk to Audrey, but Audrey was clearly ignoring her. After a couple of comments from Annie, with no response from Audrey, Annie asked… “Audrey?” *silence* “Audrey!” Annie exclaimed, a little more emphatically. *still silence* “AUDREY!” hollered Annie. *still no response* Annie, who is not a girl who is used…

How to Party Like a Missionary.
KB and her cousin Joshua have been cooking up the idea of having a Mission Party for, literally, weeks now. Its a very exclusive and secretive event: Parents are clearly NOT invited, and aren’t even allowed to know exactly what a Mission Party even is. I think, but this is just my totally ignorant, uninformed opinion, that the Mission Party is something they did at GAs* on a Wednesday night,…

Fairy Sleeping Princess from Mouse Kingdom
Another thing we’ve spent hours and hours doing this summer? Playing dress-up. At any given moment you can walk into our play room to find it littered knee-deep with an array of sparkly clothing, glamourous shoes, and feather boas. The best outfits are an eclectic mix of all the Disney characters….who cares if Sleeping Beauty has Mouse ears and fairy wings? Pile it on, baby. Our poor little fairy has flown…

Summer Wrap-Up. Part 2.
I think I told you in the last post that some of our summer events weren’t all that exciting. This might be one of them. This summer….Annie got her first pair of shorts. I know…ridiculous!….but she has spent a lifetime, three whole years, wearing cutesy *outfits* and *dresses* and never once had a pair of cheap shorts from Target, and you can not imagine how THRILLED she was by this…

Summer Wrap-Up.
A few major events happened in our lives within the past few months. And many not-so-major ones. Here are a few items that haven’t made it to the blog yet… First grade ended in a whirlwind. Ugh, this rips my heart right out to realize that Second Grade is starting next week and I never posted about First Grade! I hope, at some point in the future, when KB looks…

The Day From You-Know-Where.
Its Sunday. I finally have the energy to post some pictures from our hospital experience three days ago! Am I a huge baby, or is taking your three-year-old to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas for an MRI of her brain *supposed* to suck the life out of you? Because it did, and I’m drained….physically, emotionally, and in all other ways. I want to sleep for days. These pictures don’t really…

Annie.
This is the week. Ninety days have flown by faster than it seems possible. Annie’s next MRI is this Thursday, the 13th, at 9 am. It will be a grueling day for her: no breakfast. Checking in and getting yet another hospital bracelet attached to her little wrist. Waiting endlessly in a boring waiting room. An IV. Total anesthesia. A 45-minute scan of her brain while she sleeps, oblivious. Waking…

A Case of the Mondays.
Today I’m in a huge funk. I’m not usually one to get in a funk; I get irritated, annoyed, sad if there’s a reason for it, but usually get over it quickly. Happy is my default. Maybe not deliriously, gloriously joyful, but basically I’m pretty content most of the time. I’m not one to mope and it takes a LOT for me to get to the point where I wish…

Not Out of the Woods.
I think I’ve gotten a little lax and lazy with Annie’s diet lately. I’ve think I’ve gotten a little lazy enforcing the sleep policy what with it being summer. I’ve think I’ve let Annie have too much junk food….too much sugar….too much ice cream and birthday cake….too much fake food out of a box. I’ve been in denial, wanting to believe that everything’s ok, because Annie *LOOKS* so healthy and…

Where’s Waldo, Watch Me Momma, and Wordless Wednesday (On Thursday).
Tuesday at the pool, *someone* was very upset that her *very mean mother* made her wear floaties. Yes, *very mean mother* totally forgot that age 3 is the age where one become an independent, self-directed adult who is capable of making intelligent choices in life. So she ran and hid and taught the *very mean mother* a lesson. And the *very mean mother* weeped and wailed and gnashed her teeth…

Evil Words.
This morning at breakfast, we had a very short, very informal Bible time and one-or-two minute discussion about the book of James. In terms a 3-and-7-year-old can understand, of course. I read 2 or 3 verses to the girls, paraphrased for them what the verses meant and talked for a minute or two about how we should watch what we say and avoid evil words because the words that we…

Bringing Out the Big Guns.
So Thursday afternoon, I took the kids to Jumpin’ Jacks Party Shack for open jump. They open their doors every Thursday afternoon from 3:30-5:30 and for the ridiculously expensive not completely budget-breaking price of $6 per kid, you can buy yourself a couple of hours of germs, noise, and other people’s poorly behaved children air-conditioned entertainment for your kiddos. Its one of those Necessary Evils of parenting….sort of like poopy…
