I bravely ventured into the room that will be the baby’s bedroom the other day to figure out what needed to be done and where to start.
I say “bravely” because this is the room that currently houses all the *stuff* that hasn’t found a home since we moved in six months ago; odds and ends that we don’t know what to do with. It’s our attic, basically.
It’s time. This baby who crept into my life unexpectedly, well, she’s coming, ready or not, and she’s gonna need a place to sleep.
Sleep, I said. SLEEP. We sleep in our house. And if she wants to be part of THIS family…
*Sorry. Just had a brief panic attack…
And you know what? It struck me that the drapes I already have hanging in that room… would be beautiful in a baby’s room.
Yeah, they’re blue and brown… ‘boy colors’ if you want to be all stereotypical, but … the fabric is elegant and shimmery and … I’m just thinking…
Picture THAT fabric on THIS bedding, with the giant girly bows… it would be gorgeous, right?!
And then… I thought about the chandelier in my used-to-be-a-dining room (which is now an office)… and I thought, my man who can fix anything could easily swap light fixtures, and this chandelier would be so pretty in our new girly room!
I have this mirror propped against the wall in our storage room junk room baby’s room, just sitting there unused.
This mirror…. with the drapes… and the chandelier….. do you see where I’m going with this??
*Please pardon the *stuff* reflected in the mirror. It’s on its way to a new home… asap. Hello, five month pregnant baby bump…
Also sitting in our storage room baby’s room, unused?
This French Provincial armoire. I bought it at an auction years ago, and it’s wired with groovy {useless} European wiring, not that that’s relevant to anything.
I’m seeing it chalk painted. In duck egg blue.
The look I think I’m going for is quite different from my last baby nursery, which looked a little somethin’ like this…
Yep, that was Annie’s nursery, and Katie Beth’s before that. I’ll be using the same crib and that slipcovered rocking chair {that belonged to my grandmother}, and I’ll be reupholstering it to match baby’s room… I’m thinking duck egg blue velvet.
I’m getting excited about Baby Sister and her pretty new room. This is gonna be fun….
AWE-SOME!!! It's gonna be gorgeous, M!!! Absolutely gorgeous!
I'm getting pretty excited about Baby Bump myself! And I'm glad you like to decorate. That's the only way that would get done. Without you, my baby would come into the world and live in that room the way it is now. Function over form! 😉
I love your ideas and elegant baby nurseries! I think blue and brown are the perfect colors! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂 I hope it turns out like I have in my mind…
No way, Jose! Function over form?!?! You're an ARTIST for Pete's sake! Gosh! I just can't wait for you to get REALLY excited… which won't happen until you actually lay eyes on her. You have NO idea what's about to hit you, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without her…
Thanks Cindy!! I hope I can make this garage sale bunch of hodge-podge stuff look like I MEANT for this to happen! 🙂
Can't wait to see pics when you have it all finished. I love the elegant, rich fabric look. And the chandelier will is beautiful.
