I had the most random memory this morning as I was loading the dishwasher.
Contrary to what FlyLady says to do (and I do love and appreciate FlyLady, don’t get me wrong…) I like to do my dishes in the wee hours of the morning.
I get up, start my toast and fried egg, start the coffee, and while I’m waiting on those things, load the dishwasher. (My kids unload it the afternoon before so there’s not a lot of dish clanging to wake up the kids).
This morning, I loaded it, plopped in the detergent pod, and was just overcome with gratitude for…. Dishwasher detergent.
Random, I know.
But I remembered that there were many times in my single-mom life that I was too poor to buy more because I could afford bread or dishwasher detergent, but not both. Or milk, but not dishwasher detergent. Or I had to plan out which day to run the dishwasher because I was down to my last dishwasher pod before payday with less than $3 in my account. Maybe even less than $1. It’s been known to happen.
I’ve had to borrow dishwasher detergent from my mom… and laundry detergent, multiple times.
And at that random moment this morning loading the dishwasher while my coffee brewed, it just struck me that I have been able to just RUN THE DISHWASHER ANYTIME I WANT lately, without even considering how many pods I have left in the cabinet relative to payday.
It’s the little things, isn’t it? Or it may seem like a little thing, if you’ve never been in a position to have to rely on God to see you through until next payday.
He has cared and provided for us so well, and I’m so grateful.
You are my portion, O Lord…
