Every Morning.

Melissa Beene Ford/ faith

Every morning for the past two years, I’ve gotten up and driven thirty miles east to work.

The past two weeks, though, I’ve been getting to work between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. so I can get my eight hours in and get home early… because my kids are home for the summer, and I want as much time with them as possible.

Which puts me driving in total darkness or driving just as the sun is rising in the east, right in front of my eyes.

And I feel like God has allowed me to sit on the front row for some of His best performances.

My silly cell phone camera can’t possibly do it justice, but I try… I snap sunrise pictures by the dozens, just trying to capture the gorgeous and fabulous, amazing and spectacular, that I get to witness every. single. morning.

And every morning, God outdoes the display He put on the day before.

There’s something so POWERFUL and MAGNIFICENT about it… the immense sun… the horizon that goes on forever… and I can’t help but ponder on how great is the God who created this universe.

I want to sing hymns. I want to quote Bible verses, like THIS is the day the LORD has made… Let us REJOICE and BE GLAD!

Because it’s almost impossible to see the sunrise and not be filled with hope for a new day filled with rejoicing and gladness.

A day in which the God of the universe has plans for us.

But mostly, I think… Praise God. His mercies are new every morning.

Every. Single. Morning.

Every morning, we wake up to a new day, and a new chance to start over, yesterday’s sins no longer held against us… because His mercies, they fail not…

Every morning, the sun comes up again, and THIS new day is a gift from a merciful God.

Rejoice and be glad.

Beautiful sunrises! Loved the verses you included in your post, too. Are you familiar with Lincoln Brewster's "Today is the day"? (I'm not sure if it's "his" song, but I've only heard it sung by him.) I have it in my head after reading Psalm 118:24. 🙂

I love that song! In fact, I just love Lincoln Brewster. "Another Hallelujah" is one of my faves. 🙂

Melissa, you mentioned the desire to sing hymns. One of my all-time favorites is "Great is Thy Faithfulness". I particularly love the line in the chorus that says, "Morning by morning, new mercies I see."

These sunrise pics immediately quickened my heart and mind to that grand old song. Thanks for sharing these!
