Halloween. Yes, I Know It Was Three Weeks Ago.

Melissa Beene Ford/ Annie+ Family Fun+ Katie

This may come as quite a shock to those of you who know me well, and are familiar with my efficiency and prowess at multi-tasking and time management, and lightening-fast speed at completing tasks….

Task Oriented. Driven. Efficient. Yes, those words describe me to a ‘T,’ I know, so try to NOT be too shocked by this confession: I’m running a little behind.

Its just that time of year. We’ve all been sick, a couple of us MULTIPLE times (ugh), and of course its the busy season in the bow-making world. But enough with the excuses. Just enjoy my Halloween pictures…..three weeks late.

We started our Halloween celebrations with the annual Parade at Kids Kaleidoscope. I don’t think Baby A really quite knew what to do with those gloves…

But that didn’t inhibit her sassy strut down the catwalk to the oohs and aahs of the crowd of onlookers. She’s in her element when crowds are admiring her.

Does anybody think she looks like me?? Just taking a survey. Please, someone, tell me ONE of my kids looks like ME.
We finished up the parade with a little party in the classroom. See that little hottie in the fireman costume on the left of this picture?

That’s Konnor. He’s also in Baby A’s Sunday School class, and I have to say, Baby A has fallen hard. She wants to go to school *JUST* to play with Konnor. In her words, “I love Konnah the best.”

Back at home, we put the Minnie Mouse costume back on for a night of trick or treating with our friends. Baby A hung out here, at the back door, *DYING* to go. Just to interject a little observation about the differences between my two girls, off the subject: That’s what she does every day….hangs out at the back door crying, ” WANNA GO MAMMA! WANNA GO MAMMA!” As opposed to Big Sis, who I can’t pry away from the art table to go ANYWHERE.

(Her costume wasn’t supposed to be ‘off the shoulder,’ in case you’re judging my lack of parenting here. It was just a little too big and kept falling down!)

Big Sis wanted *NOTHING* more than to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Secretly, I suspect it had more to do with the pet dog in a basket than Dorothy herself. Oh yeah, and of course, those red sparkly shoes.
I bought this Dorothy costume on ebay after an intense bidding war in the final seconds, in which I ended up spending a gut-wrenching amount of money for this costume that unbeknownst to me originally came from WAL MART, as one of my fellow dance class moms informed me later. Ouch, it still hurts.

But as long as Big Sis was happy, right….? Right? RIGHT?

And I’m laying off of ebay from now on, in case you wondered. (I can hear you laughing about my recent shoe purchase, A.T. Stop it. I’m done with ebay, ok?)

We went to a little par-tay at the Thedford’s house, complete with food, food, dip, food, and dip. And did I mention that DIP? Check out Cole, Blake, KB, and Gracie on the couch, and Audrey, Mallory, Baby A, and Garrison on the floor. I think they had fun!
After the eating, we went on a little hay ride through the neighborhood courtesy of the Turman’s. It was a BLAST, I tell ya. My kids have NEVER been trick or treating before! (gasp) I know, I know…can you believe that?? We usually do the overcrowded, chaotic thing at the church, so I was happy that we had alternate plans this year. Hopefully we can make this an annual thing (how ’bout it, A.T.)?

It was hard to get good pictures of the trick-or-treaters in the dark, but I tried! My camera was, of course, being little persnickety in the darkness. My camera doesn’t like the dark. It also doesn’t cooperate in daylight, flourescent, or incandescent lighting.

Or maybe I just know how to work all those complex settings on a digital camera? Hmmm.

Any evening that ends with bags full of free candy is a-o-k with us. Free candy, and Kristi’s sausage cheese dip…that was *SERIOUSLY* the bomb. Until next October 31st….

She DOES look like you! And, I feel your pain on the costume price. I stumbled upon Jackson’s dumb iron man costume for HALF the price only 30 minutes after buying it at the "all sales final" halloween superstore. Still kicking myself!

I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 years of paint off of this door down to the wood and start over… but that person has no business starting new projects. 😅 My neighbors must have thought this project would never end. *I* thought this project would never end. 😰 If you’re thinking of doing this yourself? Just don’t, ok? Throw the whole door away and buy a new one. 😂🤣 Just kidding. Old house weirdos like me… we can’t just do things the easy way. Anyhoo… after some trial and error, @sherwinwilliams Celestial is what I landed on, and I have to say… I like it. Periwinkle-ish blue looks great with the yellow house and will look even better when the azaleas are in bloom. Was it all worth it? That’s not important right now. 🤭 Will I do this all again in two years? The magic eight ball says… without a doubt. 👏🏻 I’ve already picked the next color. #gluttonforpunishment #somefoolsneverlearn #oldhouselove #oldhomelove #makinghome #southernliving #gardenandgun #azaleadistrict #tylertx
Spring in the Azalea District makes the winters in Spring in the Azalea District makes the winters in an 80-year-old house completely worth it … what broken pipes, icy hardwood floors and drafty windows? 🤔 I forgot already. #comeonspring #azaleadistrict #tylertx

2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrollin 2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrolling through my pics from the last twelve months made me realize how blessed and content I am. Prosperity, love, and peace have been ours in abundance, in spite of the pain of losing my dad. The second picture is the last picture of him… the last time I saw him. 💔 But God has been good to my family this year and 2022 is ending far better than it began. 😄 #2022inreview #thanksforthememories
Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍ Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s it. That’s the tour. (Slide two).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a new trend I’m starting: bare Christmas tree. Lowe’s tag still attached (so quirky and unexpected)! Christmas ornaments still in boxes. Coming soon to an Anthropologie window display near you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every year I think, “next year I’ll do better. Next year I’ll have it together.” And then, here we are on the SIXTH Christmas that we’ve been in this house, the sixth Christmas I’ve dragged our chaotic bunch of Christmas mess out of a chaotic garage I still haven’t unpacked from our move six years ago.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe this year is the year I’ll organize it all and put it back neatly so that by Christmas number 7, it will be smooth sailing. People will flock to my social media to see how I’ve pulled everything off SO PERFECTLY. Next year will be my year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seems every year there’s less and less bandwidth for all these things. There’s more grief and stress, less money. More demands, less grace.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I put this sign on the wall in my office so I could keep it in front of my eyes: Love. Joy. Peace. And all that. I am SO unlike Jesus most days. So lacking in all of these character qualities. And that’s WITH waking up most mornings and spending my first 30 minutes with God Himself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lost would I be without that? Geez. I can’t fathom. I REQUIRE being transformed by renewing my mind every single morning, and even then, responding to people and life with love, joy, peace and patience doesn’t come naturally.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s the goal, though.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This weary world needs that from us Believers during this season, more than ever… even more than an Anthropologie-window-display worthy Christmas home tour.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m working on both.
