Movin’ On Up.

Melissa Beene Ford/ Uncategorized

I got the keys to my new apartment last week, and I’ve been giddy ever since. I was so excited that the afternoon after I picked up the keys and signed the lease, the girls and I had a small party, invited some of our favorite people over, and camped out there on the floor.

I can’t tell you how thrilling it is to have a new home dedicated to only the happiest of memories, the bestest of friends, and the funnest of experiences.

And carpet. It has carpet! Which you can’t fully appreciate until you’ve gotten out of bed to put your bare feet on icy cold hardwood floors every morning for the past twelve years.

Carpet. Its the stuff dreams are made of, I tell you.

And did I mention that our new apartment is fabulous???? Its been beautifully redone…. from the brand new carpet to the brand new paint to the brand new light fixtures. All new…. and so very beautiful. I feel so incredibly blessed!

Ready for a tour?

Let’s start with my roomy living room with a FIREPLACE! The Christmas tree will go in front of that window on the left…

There’s a wet bar between the kitchen and the living room! The Barbie dolls have already taken the bar sink over as their own personal hot tub. And I’m trying to be accomodating….

It has stairs!! I LOVE that the bedrooms are upstairs, so after my kids are in bed I can still do stuff without waking them up! All the other apartments I looked at had the kids’ bedroom rightthere behind where the tv would go, which would be horribly inconvenient for a woman who likes to make hairbows into the wee hours of the morning… while watching movies…

And Annie wouldn’t be Annie without a pose like this…

There. That’s much better. Thank you.

Under the stairs… a secret closet that wraps around under the stairs to put the kids in time-out when they’re bad for stashing ALL KINDS of extra stuff! You can never have too many closets, you know, for putting your kids your extra stuff in…

And did I mention carpet? Lucious, scrumptious, beautiful carpet…

A little hero-worship. KB and her little cousin Micah adore each other. And what *Bess does, Micah does. (*Bess = that’s what Micah calls KB. And its just so darn cute that I think I’m changing her name permanently).

Extra, unbelievable coolness-factor for the kiddos… a balcony overlooking the living room!

They’ve been warned to NEVER throw toys over the railing.

I’ll just be happy if they never throw each other over the railing.

Keep your expectations low, that’s what I say.

That balcony is in my room, by the way. My awesome, fabulous master bedroom. The kids begged me to let them have the room with the balcony, and I told them that when they get a job and pay the rent, its all theirs.

“Mommy! My woom has a SEAT!” (But alas, no balcony… sorry ’bout your luck, kid…)

And I’ll close with the piece de resistance. The closet. There are no adjectives to fully describe this closet. This 12×6 closet. The picture doesn’t do it justice…. did I mention that its TWELVE by SIX feet? (sigh…)

I don’t think I have ever felt as satisfied, fulfilled, and content as I do right now, because I have a 12×6 closet, and all my dreams have come true.

The end.

I am so happy for you – the apartment is beautiful but what will make it even more beautiful are the precious ladies living there. Have fun decorating it and making it your home. -Renae

I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 years of paint off of this door down to the wood and start over… but that person has no business starting new projects. 😅 My neighbors must have thought this project would never end. *I* thought this project would never end. 😰 If you’re thinking of doing this yourself? Just don’t, ok? Throw the whole door away and buy a new one. 😂🤣 Just kidding. Old house weirdos like me… we can’t just do things the easy way. Anyhoo… after some trial and error, @sherwinwilliams Celestial is what I landed on, and I have to say… I like it. Periwinkle-ish blue looks great with the yellow house and will look even better when the azaleas are in bloom. Was it all worth it? That’s not important right now. 🤭 Will I do this all again in two years? The magic eight ball says… without a doubt. 👏🏻 I’ve already picked the next color. #gluttonforpunishment #somefoolsneverlearn #oldhouselove #oldhomelove #makinghome #southernliving #gardenandgun #azaleadistrict #tylertx
Spring in the Azalea District makes the winters in Spring in the Azalea District makes the winters in an 80-year-old house completely worth it … what broken pipes, icy hardwood floors and drafty windows? 🤔 I forgot already. #comeonspring #azaleadistrict #tylertx

2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrollin 2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrolling through my pics from the last twelve months made me realize how blessed and content I am. Prosperity, love, and peace have been ours in abundance, in spite of the pain of losing my dad. The second picture is the last picture of him… the last time I saw him. 💔 But God has been good to my family this year and 2022 is ending far better than it began. 😄 #2022inreview #thanksforthememories
Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍ Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s it. That’s the tour. (Slide two).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a new trend I’m starting: bare Christmas tree. Lowe’s tag still attached (so quirky and unexpected)! Christmas ornaments still in boxes. Coming soon to an Anthropologie window display near you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every year I think, “next year I’ll do better. Next year I’ll have it together.” And then, here we are on the SIXTH Christmas that we’ve been in this house, the sixth Christmas I’ve dragged our chaotic bunch of Christmas mess out of a chaotic garage I still haven’t unpacked from our move six years ago.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe this year is the year I’ll organize it all and put it back neatly so that by Christmas number 7, it will be smooth sailing. People will flock to my social media to see how I’ve pulled everything off SO PERFECTLY. Next year will be my year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seems every year there’s less and less bandwidth for all these things. There’s more grief and stress, less money. More demands, less grace.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I put this sign on the wall in my office so I could keep it in front of my eyes: Love. Joy. Peace. And all that. I am SO unlike Jesus most days. So lacking in all of these character qualities. And that’s WITH waking up most mornings and spending my first 30 minutes with God Himself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lost would I be without that? Geez. I can’t fathom. I REQUIRE being transformed by renewing my mind every single morning, and even then, responding to people and life with love, joy, peace and patience doesn’t come naturally.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s the goal, though.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This weary world needs that from us Believers during this season, more than ever… even more than an Anthropologie-window-display worthy Christmas home tour.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m working on both.
