Oreo Truffles.

Melissa Beene Ford/ Cooking

My husband has this life-long addiction to Oreo cookies.

And because my goal in life is to make him happy, I try to make sure he gets his Oreo fix as often as possible.

He’s happy enough to eat straight-out-of-the-package Oreos on their own — with milk, without milk, it matters not — but this recipe takes them to a whole NEW level of incredible so I make these for him every chance I get. And he begs me to marry him all over again.

The beauty of this recipe is that it only requires three ingredients. One package of Oreo cookies. One package of cream cheese. One package of chocolate candy coating (or almond bark, it’s sometimes called).

Begin by pulverizing the Oreos in a food processor.

You’ll need one WHOLE package, so try to keep your husband OUT of the Oreos while you’re working. Unless, of course, he’s devastatingly handsome, in which case you can let him have ONE Oreo.

Devastatingly handsome goes a long way, but a whole package of Oreos means a whole package of Oreos.

You’ll want your Oreos processed into crumbs like you see in the blurry picture below. And you’ll also want to learn how to take better pictures than I do.

What I NORMALLY do is dump the Oreo crumbs into my Kitchenaid Mixer bowl, then add the block of cream cheese and mix, but I was trying to go totally against my nature and for once in my life NOT dirty everything in the kitchen, so I added the cream cheese to the food processor and was quite proud of myself for being so efficient and all until I realized that it wasn’t going to mix so well and I almost cursed three times.

Next time I’ll just dirty the Kitchenaid Mixer, because one day I’ll realize that efficient is one thing I am NOT. And I don’t like to curse.

But however YOU choose to do it, just mix the cream cheese and Oreo crumbs well.

This is the goop that results. It looks like mud, but trust me… it’s delicious. And it would look like mud even if this picture weren’t all terrible and blurry because your kitchen is dark and you didn’t use a tripod.

Scoop the mixture out into little balls. I like to use my small Pampered Chef scoop on account of I don’t like to get my hands dirty, but feel free to get your own hands in there and get down and dirty with it if that’s what you’re into… but either way, form this stuff into 1″ balls.

Line them up on wax paper.

When you’ve made all the balls you can make with the dough that your husband didn’t eat, put them in the fridge to chill for an hour or so.

Meanwhile, melt your candy coating in the microwave at 30-second intervals. It only takes about one minute in my microwave.

Stir to get it all even. And if you could please do your work on a kitchen counter that’s littered with cheese cracker crumbs left behind by your children, that would make me feel better about myself.

Then dunk the Oreo balls into the chocolate three or four at a time, working quickly so you can get them all coated before the chocolate hardens.

I like to use two forks to stir the balls around and get them coated really well, then tap the fork on the side of your bowl to remove the excess chocolate.

Return the chocolate-coated balls to the wax paper…

Until every last one of them is coated.

You can return them to the fridge if you want, but I think the chocolate hardens just fine on the kitchen counter.

I think they look extra pretty if, after you get all the balls coated, you dip your fork into the remaining chocolate and splatter-paint some chocolate stripes over the tops. But maybe that’s just me.

Then send the whole batch to your husband’s office so his coworkers can get fat so his coworkers can enjoy them, because for Heaven’s sake, you can’t leave these lying around the house or you’ll eat too many and never get to pack up those gosh-awful maternity jeans.

I’m just guessing.

One of the top three reasons I put up with your one quirk that gets on my nerves. Everything else is perfect! 🙂

I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 years of paint off of this door down to the wood and start over… but that person has no business starting new projects. 😅 My neighbors must have thought this project would never end. *I* thought this project would never end. 😰 If you’re thinking of doing this yourself? Just don’t, ok? Throw the whole door away and buy a new one. 😂🤣 Just kidding. Old house weirdos like me… we can’t just do things the easy way. Anyhoo… after some trial and error, @sherwinwilliams Celestial is what I landed on, and I have to say… I like it. Periwinkle-ish blue looks great with the yellow house and will look even better when the azaleas are in bloom. Was it all worth it? That’s not important right now. 🤭 Will I do this all again in two years? The magic eight ball says… without a doubt. 👏🏻 I’ve already picked the next color. #gluttonforpunishment #somefoolsneverlearn #oldhouselove #oldhomelove #makinghome #southernliving #gardenandgun #azaleadistrict #tylertx

2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrollin 2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrolling through my pics from the last twelve months made me realize how blessed and content I am. Prosperity, love, and peace have been ours in abundance, in spite of the pain of losing my dad. The second picture is the last picture of him… the last time I saw him. 💔 But God has been good to my family this year and 2022 is ending far better than it began. 😄 #2022inreview #thanksforthememories
Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍ Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s it. That’s the tour. (Slide two).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a new trend I’m starting: bare Christmas tree. Lowe’s tag still attached (so quirky and unexpected)! Christmas ornaments still in boxes. Coming soon to an Anthropologie window display near you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every year I think, “next year I’ll do better. Next year I’ll have it together.” And then, here we are on the SIXTH Christmas that we’ve been in this house, the sixth Christmas I’ve dragged our chaotic bunch of Christmas mess out of a chaotic garage I still haven’t unpacked from our move six years ago.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe this year is the year I’ll organize it all and put it back neatly so that by Christmas number 7, it will be smooth sailing. People will flock to my social media to see how I’ve pulled everything off SO PERFECTLY. Next year will be my year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seems every year there’s less and less bandwidth for all these things. There’s more grief and stress, less money. More demands, less grace.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I put this sign on the wall in my office so I could keep it in front of my eyes: Love. Joy. Peace. And all that. I am SO unlike Jesus most days. So lacking in all of these character qualities. And that’s WITH waking up most mornings and spending my first 30 minutes with God Himself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lost would I be without that? Geez. I can’t fathom. I REQUIRE being transformed by renewing my mind every single morning, and even then, responding to people and life with love, joy, peace and patience doesn’t come naturally.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s the goal, though.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This weary world needs that from us Believers during this season, more than ever… even more than an Anthropologie-window-display worthy Christmas home tour.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m working on both.
