Pay It Forward: My First Giveaway. :)

Melissa Beene Ford/ Giveaways

I saw this on Serena’s blog and thought it sounded like such a fun idea. And, as it turns out, I entered and WON!! I can’t wait to see what arrives in the mail.

Here’s how it works (‘ve tweaked the rules a little for my own purposes…I hope that’s ok with whoever ~ or is it whomever? ~ is in charge of these things):

Three people, chosen randomly, will receive a handmade item from me. After leaving me a comment with a link to your own blog, post a little note about Pay It Forward on your OWN blog and do the same, making and sending a handmade item to 3 people who comment on your blog. Now, Serena’s rules stated that the first three people to enter would win. I just didn’t want person number four to be depressed and despondent that they never even had a chance, and I do *NOT* want to be responsible for adding any more depression and despondency in the world. So when you do your own contest, feel free to use her rules or mine.

And so it continues on with each person. Pay It Forwards can be any handmade item or craft that you choose to send. The items do not have to be large, just something that you have made. According to the rules, you have 365 days to make & send the PIFs but most send them out much sooner.

If you are interested in entering my giveaway, post a comment saying so.

Once I contact you to let you know that you are one of the three Chosen Ones, you can then go ahead and post on your own blog about Pay It Forward.

And now, here is what my winners will receive, handmade by me…… drumroll please………………………………………

HAIRBOWS!!

The first name I draw will get 8 hairbows. Second place gets 4 hairbows. Third place gets 2 hairbows.

I know the fact that my hand-made items happen to be hairbows, of all things, comes as a tremendous shock to you all. Try to contain your astonishment.

Since I just had a birthday and I’m feeling extra generous, I’ll let you choose the color and size, from itty-bitty-teeny baby hairbows, all the way up to Alice-in-Wonderland ginormous hairbows.

Since I just had a birthday and I’m feeling extra generous, I’ll let you choose the colors. You can choose multiple colors, or if you braid your Yorkshire Terrier’s hair into 8 hairbows and would like 8 bows of the same color…..well, that’s your choice. I don’t judge, I just try to keep my customers happy.

Since I just had a birthday and I’m feeling extra generous, I’ll give you extra entries FOR:

* Adding me to your blogroll. Because you don’t want to miss the exciting adventures of the Big Blue House. You know you don’t. Then just leave me a comment telling me you did it.

* Posting a link about my giveaway on your blog.

* Pledging your undying loyalty to purchase ONLY the best hairbows handmade in Tyler, Texas, whenever possible, and to promise you’ll never, ever, even if your life depends on it, purchase those inferior hairbows that may or may not have the initials B or N. Or W or O, for that matter. You only have to promise that you’ll try, and know that I won’t hold it against you if I see one of those inferior bows on your child’s head.

I won’t hold it against you. But you might want to watch your pet bunnies closely. I’m just sayin’….

Contest ends Saturday, February 28th.

Don’t thank me, I’m just trying to do my part to save the world from tacky hairbows that fall apart or fray at the edges…..

OH NO NO NO, "Betsy," whoever you are, you do NOT have to have a blog to win, so let me just clear up that little misconception….. you do NOT have to have a blog to enter a comment and WIN. You just have to have a blog if you want to "pay it forward."

So all my non-blogging friends, there’s still hope for you. Please don’t check yourself into BHC over it.

Maybe I should

This is a really neat idea! Too bad I’m not crafty at all…I have no way to Pay It Forward! If only I were creative and nifty…you know I can always use hairbows at my house! 🙂

I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 I don’t know who’s big idea it was to strip 80 years of paint off of this door down to the wood and start over… but that person has no business starting new projects. 😅 My neighbors must have thought this project would never end. *I* thought this project would never end. 😰 If you’re thinking of doing this yourself? Just don’t, ok? Throw the whole door away and buy a new one. 😂🤣 Just kidding. Old house weirdos like me… we can’t just do things the easy way. Anyhoo… after some trial and error, @sherwinwilliams Celestial is what I landed on, and I have to say… I like it. Periwinkle-ish blue looks great with the yellow house and will look even better when the azaleas are in bloom. Was it all worth it? That’s not important right now. 🤭 Will I do this all again in two years? The magic eight ball says… without a doubt. 👏🏻 I’ve already picked the next color. #gluttonforpunishment #somefoolsneverlearn #oldhouselove #oldhomelove #makinghome #southernliving #gardenandgun #azaleadistrict #tylertx
Spring in the Azalea District makes the winters in Spring in the Azalea District makes the winters in an 80-year-old house completely worth it … what broken pipes, icy hardwood floors and drafty windows? 🤔 I forgot already. #comeonspring #azaleadistrict #tylertx

2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrollin 2022 had its highs and lows for sure, but scrolling through my pics from the last twelve months made me realize how blessed and content I am. Prosperity, love, and peace have been ours in abundance, in spite of the pain of losing my dad. The second picture is the last picture of him… the last time I saw him. 💔 But God has been good to my family this year and 2022 is ending far better than it began. 😄 #2022inreview #thanksforthememories
Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍ Who wants a Christmas tour of my home? 🙋🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s it. That’s the tour. (Slide two).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a new trend I’m starting: bare Christmas tree. Lowe’s tag still attached (so quirky and unexpected)! Christmas ornaments still in boxes. Coming soon to an Anthropologie window display near you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every year I think, “next year I’ll do better. Next year I’ll have it together.” And then, here we are on the SIXTH Christmas that we’ve been in this house, the sixth Christmas I’ve dragged our chaotic bunch of Christmas mess out of a chaotic garage I still haven’t unpacked from our move six years ago.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe this year is the year I’ll organize it all and put it back neatly so that by Christmas number 7, it will be smooth sailing. People will flock to my social media to see how I’ve pulled everything off SO PERFECTLY. Next year will be my year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seems every year there’s less and less bandwidth for all these things. There’s more grief and stress, less money. More demands, less grace.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I put this sign on the wall in my office so I could keep it in front of my eyes: Love. Joy. Peace. And all that. I am SO unlike Jesus most days. So lacking in all of these character qualities. And that’s WITH waking up most mornings and spending my first 30 minutes with God Himself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How lost would I be without that? Geez. I can’t fathom. I REQUIRE being transformed by renewing my mind every single morning, and even then, responding to people and life with love, joy, peace and patience doesn’t come naturally.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s the goal, though.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This weary world needs that from us Believers during this season, more than ever… even more than an Anthropologie-window-display worthy Christmas home tour.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m working on both.
