We got to hear our baby’s heartbeat today for the first time.
And oh my goodness, what a thrill.
And almost as thrilling? I’ve lost half a pound since this pregnancy began fifteen weeks ago. Which was totally unexpected because I’ve been feeling like I’ve gained enough to start doing my grocery shopping from one of those motorized carts.
So far, this pregnancy has been completely uneventful. I’ve had ZERO morning sickness. Which is completely bizarre to me because past pregnancies have included vomiting into the a/c vents of my brand new Mitsubishi Montero. Pulling over to throw up on the highway on my way to grad school classes.
Desperately trying every known old wive’s tale, no matter how far-fetched, to bring sweet relief to the misery of the torture of morning sickness.
So the lack of sickness had me a little worried because sickness = healthy pregnancy, so they say, and then I heard that heartbeat today and I was reassured: this baby is healthy and strong. Thank you, Lord.
The heart rate was in the 150’s, for those of you who believe that means something.
My cravings have been so different, too.
With KB I wanted watermelon, and I singlehandedly put away watermelons by the dozens. And real blue cheese salad dressing. That had to mean she was a girl.
With Annie I wanted steak, meat, cheese, and chili cheese fries from Wienerland. And I just knew she would be a boy.
This baby has me CRAVING jalapeno. (I just bought a bag full of them, no lie, to dehydrate and grind into jalapeno flavor that I can add to everything, because as it turns out, I can’t find jalapeno flavor at the grocery store. I’ll let you know how that turns out).
And wasabi paste. I can’t get enough.
And olives. Black. Green. Kalamata. I don’t care.
If I could mix all three — olives, jalapeno, and wasabi — I swear, that would be the perfect topping for ice cream. With a side of pickles…
Which sort of reminds me of Pioneer Woman’s Olive Cheese Bread. It’s HEAVENLY… even when you’re NOT pregnant.
Which makes me think I need to send someone to the grocery store immediately…
I’m down half a pound, after all, and clearly this baby needs some Olive Cheese Bread at 10pm.
happy Mothers day!! my last 2 pregnancies I wasn't sick at all…and I was worried b/c the other 6 were so terrible with sickness….my friend ob told me every pregnancy is different…and they were! good luck!! enjoy that baby in your belly too!
