Summer Fairies and Gumby Cats.

Melissa Beene Ford/ Annie+ Katie

Big sister’s long-awaited dance recital was Friday night!

Her ballet school did a production of Snow White, and then after intermission did the CATS musical. KB had a part in both.

It made for a looooooooooog week with several 3-hour-long practices, but the end results were worth it! I couldn’t believe the talent some of these girls have.

We had to drop the girls off at the back door of the auditorium with hair and makeup in place. I always let my seven-year-old wear this much makeup; I think its beautiful and healthy for young girls. Pile it on, baby.

Just kidding. They have to have on a lot so their faces aren’t washed out in the stage lights! But they were thrilled; any day they get to wear makeup is a good day!! They knew they looked fabulous….they were totally feelin’ it.

KB was a Summer Fairy in the Snow White musical. That’s her, fifth from left.
She was so elegant and graceful….I was so proud of her. With her long limbs, she could have a career as a ballerina! I’ll just have to talk her into that….

Is it just me, or does the Prince look a little uncomfortable? And where are his tights? What kind of man-ballerina wears slacks?
He must have drawn the line at tights. The look on his face says, “Sigh. Ok, I’ll be in a ballet, but I am NOT wearing tights.” or “Yes, I’m a man-ballerina, but I’m still a guy…”

The baby sisters behaved pretty well in the audience!

My, what cute hairbows they have….

They were happy to just be together with their shared love of Mickey Mouse and Pluto. Or Flute-oh, as he’s called by some.

After intermission, the second musical began.

I’ll be honest…..I just didn’t ‘get’ CATS. I’m just wondering….does anyone? Tell me the truth.

(That’s KB on the front row, third from left).

I sat through it, confused the whole time….my theory is that maybe you have to be English to understand it. English, as in, from England.

You know they have a whole different sense of humor over there.

I mean, seriously….WHAT is a gumby cat?? Does anyone know???? What about a jellical cat or a rum-tum-tugger-whatever??? What the heck does it all mean?

Maybe its just me.

I’m not very sophisticated.

Whatever a Gumby Cat is……this one has to be the cutest.

The best ballerinas get a bouquet of roses after the spectacular performance.

It was a fun and exciting night, and I was so proud of my ballerina!

Great pics! I LOVE Cats. Although we saw it from the nose bleed section of the theater here, we still remember thinking that it was great!!! What a fun show to participate in!
