The All No-ing One.

Melissa Beene Ford/ Annie

Today Baby A accompanied me on my weekly marathon grocery shopping expedition. Six stores. Billions of coupons. Fun times.

All in the name of saving a penny or two for hubby.

He likes me better when I’m saving a penny or two.

So anyway, in the course of our Grocery Tour 2009, Baby A spotted approximately 172 things she wanted to see, buy, look at, touch, or just NEEDED. And me being the mean mom I am, said ‘No,’ 172 times.

“We’re staying on budget, Baby A, and that means we shop strictly BY THE LIST, buying only items we have coupons for,” I explained.

(Not really.)

After the 172nd ‘No,’ Baby A got exasperated, and in her most pitiful, gut-wrenching little voice, whimpered, “You just keep No-ing at me, and I’m tired of you no-ing at me all the time!”

So I let her open the Quaker Rice Snacks. The ones that cost .36 after coupon.

Because nobody wants to be the mom that ‘No’s’ at their child all the time.

    Oh gees mom…rice cakes. Yummo.

I’d rather get no’d at and lick my hand instead.

Grocery shopping with kids should be illegal.

Hey, they were caramel rice snacks, and they were actually pretty good! She ate the whole bag. Pretty good deal, I’d say, for 36 cents…

So, are you doing grocerysmarts? I recently learned about this coupon saving wonderfulness. It really works!!! But, I can’t do it with the children in tow. I just can’t.

tell "baby a" she’s not alone. mattie and ryder get "no’d" at ALL the time. sometimes i make a deal with them. "do not ask for anything and i’ll get you a little treat at the check out". doesn’t always work. ha. ha. ha. more like never.

haven’t commented much but i read all your new entries. you’re very creative.

we’ve had our share of "yuck" going on. life can suck.

Hey, they ARE pretty good! We’ve had a few bags of those, but I think I paid a little more than 36 cents for mine. 🙂

Terri, I do thegrocerygame.com. It is GREAT!! I’ve kept all my grocery receipts from 2009 so at the end of the year I can see what I’ve really saved, but at last count I had saved ALMOST as much as I had spent so far this year on groceries. I recommend it. 🙂
