Unicorns, Halley’s Comet, and Other Things You Don’t See Everyday.

Melissa Beene Ford/ Katie

Ever since I started this blog back in approximately 2006, I’ve SO wanted to include pictures of my kids.

Both of them.

The trouble is, I have one who is painfully shy and runs from the camera, or gives me the stink-eye when the camera comes out, or on a GOOD day, when she’s trying to cooperate, she’ll give me a phony, pasted-on smile.

I’ve invested thousands of dollars, literally, endured thousands of eye-rolls from impatient photographers, and cried angry, frustrated tears in my attempts to get one good, professional picture of this kid.

NOT SO the other kid, who knocks people out of the way to get herself poised in front of the nearest camera.

But finally.

I had a fancy, borrowed camera at my cousin’s wedding the other day, and I caught one. One fleeting glimpse, as rare as a Loch Ness Monster sighting.

My child, Katie….. smiling. A beautifully REAL, happy smile. I’ll enlarge and frame this one, because its not predicted to happen again in my lifetime.

But she’s beautiful, isn’t she?
