Comfort is the Enemy

It’s 4:50am and I’m all snuggled in my cozy bed with the green mattress and organic sheets and the blackout drapes and the fan humming and I slept SO WELL last night.
I’m home alone so I don’t have anyone forcing me to get up to make them breakfast or get them to school.
The temperature in this room is just right. Every single element in this room has been carefully designed to produce the juiciest, most delicious sleep.
I could just stay here another hour or two and nobody would blame me or notice or care.
I could stay right here.
It took me years and years to get to the point of GOOD SLEEP and some might say I deserve to sleep in, by gosh.
But the life I want is on the other side of the difficult things.
- Getting up while it’s still dark to spend time in God’s Word
- Being outside as the sun comes up
- Fasting
- Sauna
Denying myself the comforts that in the end only make me fat, sluggish, and depressed. I tried that before and I wasn’t really a fan of the ‘me’ I produced.
It’s ironic, isn’t it?
Beating your body and making it your slave … makes your body feel good.
To be a leader … you have to be a servant first.
To sleep well … you have to first get up while it’s still dark.
So I’m getting up and I’m not even mad about it.
The mattress
The sheets
The blackout drapes
The pillows
The linen bedding
The sauna
The blue light glasses before bed
The candles
