The Light Shines in the Darkness

That’s my bedroom window. Do you see the tiny slivers of light on the sides of the window? I woke up, opened my eyes, and my eyes went straight to the tiny little slivers of light fighting their way past three layers of blackout drapes.
It’s almost miraculous, really, that the tiniest beams of light have gotten INTO MY BEDROOM past
- blackout drapes
- A blackout-lined window shade
- Another blackout shade on top of that one, VELCROED to the WINDOW TRIM.
It ain’t Better Homes and Gardens approved, but I am serious about sleeping in a dark, cool, quiet cave, man. So serious about it that I attached VELCRO (gasp) to my WINDOW TRIM (gasp). I would NEVER, had I been in my right mind*, attach VELCRO to the WOOD TRIM in my HOUSE.
And yet the light shines in the darkness, and the three layers of blackout drapes comprehendeth it not.
There’s a streetlight outside my window, which was bad enough, but then my neighbors added a 22,000 lumen helicopter search-and-rescue security light on the side of their house, lighting up my bedroom like the Kenny Rogers Chicken sign, and yada yada yada (hey, that’s two Seinfeld references in one sentence), that’s when I had to add the third layer of blackoutness. *I am not in my right mind when my bedroom is flooded with light, akin to some kind of Guantanamo Bay torture.
I woke up this morning and went first to Facebook, which is a horrible habit, I know. The first post I saw was something from a big-city newspaper, and I just happened to peruse the most evil, wicked, hateful and vile comments from actual humans on that post, which left me feeling sick to my stomach that humans can be so evil, wicked, hateful and vile. The lostness of people was evident, because what is in your heart is what comes out of your mouth – or in this case, it comes out in your Facebook comments.
I closed my phone, feeling sick and sad (*which is a wonderful reason NOT to go straight to Facebook first thing in the morning, btw), and my eyes went back to the slivers of light coming through three layers of blackout drapes, and I was reminded that the darkness CANNOT WIN.
That’s the miracle of the light. The darkness cannot overcome it, because God made it that way. Three layers of professional-grade (I made that up) blackout drapes and still, the tiniest pin-prick of light squeezes past to illuminate a whole room such that I can see well enough to walk to the bathroom or get myself dressed with matching shoes, even.
Darkness cannot ever overcome light. Darkness can’t ever squeeze past three layers of blackout drapes to fill my bedroom with dark. 🤔
Something to think about. 💡
